The Difference Between Techniques

With the growing popularity of the cosmetic tattoo industry it is often difficult to decifere between the newly emerging techniques offered by artists. The most common question we receive is “which technique will work best for me?”. Microblading, Combination Brows, and Nano Brows are three unique services which incorporate different elements of cosmetic tattooing. For clients wishing to maintain a natural brow appearance microblading may be the best suited service as it provides minimalist results, while clients with sensitive skin may seek Nano Brows as it is the least invasive tattooing method. By providing you with an in depth look into each technique we intend to provide you with the information you need to select the best service for your desired results.

MICROBLADING

Manual Hair Stroke Technique

Suitable Skin Types: Dry - Normal

Appointment Length: 2 - 3 Hours

Healing Period: 10 - 14 Days

For a soft, distinguished brow our resident artist KAYLEE offers the microblading service. Microblading utilizes a handheld tool consisting of several needles to create fine incisions into the skin. Pigment is then inserted into the skin through these incisions, resulting in a series of highly naturalistic hair strokes. This technique is most suitable for clients who are interested in maintaining a naturalistic brow appearance or are wishing to amplify their naturally full brows.

Healing Process: Hair strokes will initially appear bold and dark. Scabbing will begin approximately 4 - 5 days after the appointment. Following the scabbing process clients can expect their brows to appear very light and distorted in appearance; a new layer of skin has formed over the treated area and will naturally shed up over the next several days. Once this new layer of skin has shed the pigment will fully resurface, revealing the pigment’s true color (approximately 25% - 35% lighter than directly after the appointment).

COMBINATION BROWS

Manual Hair Strokes and Device Shading Technique

Suitable Skin Types: Dry - Oily

Appointment Length: 3 - 4 Hours

healing period: 14 - 21 days

The combination brow service pairs microbladed hair strokes alongside device shading. Our resident artist KAYLEE will microblade hair strokes throughout the brow to add fluff and texture. A permanent make up device, featuring a single needle cartridge, is then used to strategically layer powdered shading. The shading adds depth and dimension to the brow, resulting in a bolder brow appearance than microblading individually. This technique is most suitable for clients with little to no natural brow hair, are covering up previous cosmetic tattoo work, or are interested in achieving a more make up-esque brow style.

Clients who have combination or oily skin types may experience a powdery appearance to the healed hair strokes. These skin types are more susceptible to shedding pigment throughout the healing process, resulting in a less defined hair stroke. Clients with combination or oily skin types are recommended to only pursue powdered shading during the first session to form a workable base. Hair strokes can be added during the second session if desiring a fluffier brow. This two step process ensures maximum pigment retention.

Healing Process: Healing times are extended with the addition of powdered shading. The brows will appear dark and solid directly after the appointment. Scabbing will begin approximately 4 - 5 days from the initial session, with the scabs more prominent in nature than with solely microblading. The brows will appear very light and distorted underneath the scabs. A new layer of skin has formed over the treated area and will naturally shed over the next several days. Once this new layer of skin has shed the pigment will fully resurface, revealing the pigment’s true color (approximately 25% - 35% lighter than directly after the appointment).

NANO BROWS

Device Hair Strokes and Shading

Suitable Skin Types: Normal - Oily

Appointment Length: 3 - 4 Hours

Healing Period: 10 - 14 Days

Through the use a permanent make up device for all aspects of the service (hair strokes and shading), Nano Brows is the least invasive method of cosmetic tattooing. A single needle inserts pigment directly into the skin, reducing the amount of trauma inflicted on the treated area. Bleeding is minimal and healing times are shortened in comparison to other techniques. Clients with sensitive skin types will benefit from this technique. Brows are custom created by our lead artist HOI, combining hair strokes and shading techniques to create highly naturalistic brows. Soft shading can be easily layered to create a more defined brow or restricted to maintain a subtle appearance. This is a versatile technique that can be used to achieve a variety of brow styles.

Healing Process: Healing times are extended with the addition of powdered shading. Brows that feature shading will appear darker directly after the appointment. Scabbing will begin approximately 4 - 5 days from the initial session, with the scabs more prominent in nature than with solely microblading. The brows will appear very light and distorted underneath the scabs as a new layer of skin has formed over the treated area. The new layer of skin will shed over several days, revealing the pigment’s true color as it resurfaces (approximately 25% - 35% lighter than directly after the appointment). Nano Brows can at times take up to 4 weeks following the initial appointment to reflect the pigment’s true color.
